The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

Here's a dare for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy the horror genre: Settle in with your loved one and stream Together. The independent film success of 2025 just made its streaming debut on Hulu. At first glance, it may seem like typical biological terror, but within Together lies a intense meditation about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have been together for a decade. Married in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a special spark to their characters, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The story begins when the couple transition from the metropolis to the countryside for her career. A somewhat stereotypical story element, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the conventions conclude. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their country house, a tempest descends, and the protagonists tumble into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and managing to escape, a mysterious influence takes hold of the pair. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The complete narrative is a methodically building of scares, interspersing bits of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes in the middle of something grotesque). Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and delivers them in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is suffering due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and removed from his support system. He fears the notion of completely losing his individual identity in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

Both characters grapple with the sort of issues that come with any relationship over a long period. Deep down, they still love one another. They share moments of joy, offer support, and are vulnerable at times. But under the surface, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their future together.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these concerns of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the allegory never feels overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that single viewers have seen the movie as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. Conversely, some couples having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own response could function as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the ending inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in either protagonist and feel frustration, or simply look at your partner and say, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu now.
